Boot from disc -> blank screen.

    PROBLEM FIXED.

What was problem: 1. Windows 7 (on it's own HDD) couldn't boot alone if i didn't also connect the HDD which had XP.

Solution: Under Disk Management i marked the Win7 HDD as active (right clicked, mark as active) and then used the Windows 7 disc to boot and then repair 3 times.

    Welcome!

Where did you get your DVD? May I suggest creating a bootable thumb drive instead? I personally use Method 2, because it is the fastest.

No problem, i got it fixed. After waiting for 10 minutes the text game.

But i have a new problem. I have dual boot for both XP and Win7. I had the same problem with RC and hoped that installing the full version will fix it. Basically i can't unconnect the XP HDD because then for some reason the Windows 7 doesn't boot. Someone said that the Win7 "bootloader" is on the XP.

I heard i can fix it with the Windows 7 disc. So i took the XP disc away after i installed the full version and then i went into the repair thingy from the Windows 7 disc. But before i go to the menu which has things like "Startup repair" it gives me this weird thing.

It can't find the Windows. Basically it gives me 2 random options (one is about recovery and other about restore) but i have to click "Load Drives" in order for the PC to find the windows. Then under Load Drives it just gives me like my HDD's and i can see everything (my Windows folder etc).

What do i need to select under Load Drives in order for that thing to find my Windows so it can add the bootloader thing or how can i fix this?

You probably need to set the Win 7 partition as active.

I looked at that and i think that i have already made it active. I mean does it mean it's active when i can see it? I mean when i select "Load drives" i can see it. It seems that that quite seems to be the thing i do when i install a new HDD (Go under Disc Management or whatever and then i take the new partition and create a HDD out of it by choosing to format it and then i choose the name, letter etc). Is it the same or is this still hte anwser?

If you are still able to boot, open Disk Management and look at the Win 7 partition. Right click on it and select the active option.

If you do not have a bootable install, we can use Diskpart to make it active.

While in the install/repair, hit Shift+F10 or go to the command prompt. This should open a command window. Type the following and hit enter after each. Wait for a response.

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk 0 <-- Your Win 7 drive if 0
    list partition
    select partition 1 <-- Win 7 partition if 1
    active
    exit
    exit

    This should make it active.

    If you type:

    detail partition

after you select the Win 7 partition, it will tell you if it is active or not.

Yeah, if i connect my XP HDD back on then i can access my Windows 7. Anyway, i "Marked it as Active" or whatever. I'll disconnect the XP HDD tomorrow and see what's up.
