Upgrade was your first mistake, lucky the problem that forces you to reinstall came early, who knows how long you'd be putting up with a seamlessly endless line of problems and errors.

These issues you describe can also point to a malware infection or hardware failure. After clean installing and formatting 7, I would run chkdsk, the Short DST of Seagate Seatools, and Memtest86+ for a couple of passes. As for anti-malware protection MSE will cover you sufficiently.

When you boot the Win7 DVD, it will scan the HD to see an OS which will allow the use of Upgrade version key.

You can then select Custom>Drive Tools to delete everything, repartition as you wish, then format before installing Win7 to first partition.

This achieves the cleanest possible install while also allowing the use of an Upgrade version key without using one of the workarounds given in the earlier link.

NOTE: There are other methods to retrieve your files if you need them, including installing over old Win7 partition without deleting or formatting which should create a windows.old file with your files stored in it. Or creating a second partition using a partition manager, clean installing Win7 there, then accessing the old Win7 partition to retrieve files before deleting and formatting it to recover the space and MBR into new install. We can help you with steps to carry out either of these.
