You need to purchase a copy of Windows 7 first. Look on Newegg.com or somewhere.
You can get the Windows 7 Upgrade version, for about $120.
I'm not going to purchase a W7 upgrade unless I know that it will accept my Vista upgrade version's key.
I think there's a miscommunication somewhere along the line in this thread.
If I buy an UPGRADE version of W7, it will ask me, upon installation, for a product key from a previous version of Windows, right? Will the product key from my UPGRADE retail version of Vista work? That's all I've been asking.
Wrong. It is relying on your honesty to tell it you already have a previous OS.
It won't even ask you. By accepting the EULA, you agree you have a qualifying OS. In your case, because you have XP, you are all legal.
Go ahead and buy the Windows 7 Upgrade version.
