Dual Boot Win7 and Ubuntu 9.10

Hey guys,

I am looking to dual boot 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 and need some assistance. I installed 7 first on one drive and Ubuntu later on a completely separate drive. Here are my current dilemmas:

1) I do not get the option to choose the OS I boot to.
2) When Linux boots it goes to black screen and stops.

I have done some reading and saw that there is a possibility that my GPU could be the cause of the black screen due to a lack of drivers or compatibility. I also think I need to do some configuring within Ubuntu to fix my boot order. I have only read about people configuring two partitions not two different drives but I don't think it should be an issue. My system specs are noted below. Again, Ubuntu is on separate 80GB SATA drive.

Thank you in advance.

Are you wanting Win 7 to be the primary boot device, or Ubuntu and use Grub for the boots?

I would like to be prompted which drive to boot to. I Prefer Windows 7 as first choice. I have only used Linux a few times before during a programming class in school years ago.

I just found something that may resolve my black screen. I have to try when I get home today.

BLACK SCREEN FIX?
1. Select recovery mode from the boot menu.
2. Select login as root from the menu in recovery mode.
3. Type this at the prompt
# sudo apt-get remove xorg-driver-fglrx
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
4. Exit
# exit
5. Now select Resume normal boot from the menu.

I can't speak to you comments about the black screen, but I have 9.10 and was using EasyBCD to setup the dual boot. I had a difference with their tutorial and have to use Grub 2 when I add the Linux boot.

What happens is I get a message that starts with "try (hd0,0) arg0" or something like that. If I wait 30 seconds, the boot continues into Ubuntu.

There are other folks here that know more about linux than I. But I do seem to be able to get mine to work.
