    Hmm, I'll reserve judgement until I get the actual MS issued RC on the 30th.

    Wait you need to make some changes to install from build 7000 to 7100? Cause i just ran the setup from my hard drive and upgraded my build without any changes...

    Two attempts at the upgrade failed for me. tried the edit cversion & install from usb flash drive. I think it was a bug in my Beta 7000 x64 with the LogiTech QuickCam that reported a problem on the upgrade. So I did they Easy Windows Transfer to an external 80gb HD. Then did a new install & transfered the old settings, etc. Worked OK!
    I just tried the same thing.. x64 7000 upgrade to 7100 from a USB flash drive. I also have the logitech quickcam.

    I'm wondering if I can just uninstall the quickcam software and drivers if it would work? Do you think/

    Logitech QuickCam would not uninstall. I had even contacted Logitech because of the problem trying to upgrade to build 7077. They said they would not support beta software testing users. So I never got to use 7077. But since the fresh install of x64 -7100 last night, everything seems to be running fine.

    You won't to have to wait much longer there!

    This latest one certainly was done over better to make it appear like it. But there's those odd unmovable 3/1/2009 files found as well as running into the Classic Windows theme on 7 at this stage while the rest sees the 4/21 time stamp? Something isn't right!

    Once the RC goes on you will need a fresh installation of those as well as the rest of the programs you have running. Here the primaries being prepared are simply being nuked anyways to prevent any unknown leftovers from getting in the way when those see clean installs.

    No changes. I read what MS said about this and was prepared to follow their instructions. I downloaded the 7100 x86, hashes match so I'm sure it's official, and then I upgraded from 7077 without doing anything. I did not edit any files at all and the upgrade went flawlessly. Not sure how or why it was possible as I did, but it was.

    Windows 7 Version 7022

    Ok i have a major problem...
    a few months ago i downloaded the beta 7022. ive tryed to upgrade it from that to 7077 and 7048 but whenever i press install, nothing happens. the install screen just kinda flickers and does nothing.
    well i got the RC 1 a week ago and still the same thing.
    i redownloaded the official version today and same thing. when i looked at the cversion.ini, it reads:
    [HostBuild]
    MinClient=7077.0
    MinServer=7000.0

    i changed minclient to 7000, 7100, and tryed this 7077 and nothing can get it to start. what am i running into?!?!?

    also i take the iso and extract the files with winrar and press set up. can i do it that way? i dont have a copy of vista with me to downgrade.

    The downloader itself sees the option for starting up the installer as well as closing it out for seeing the iso burned to disk. Either way or using the usb key method USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create you want the custom option not upgrade used to see the RC go right on and pack things up from the previous build into the Windows.old folder.

    The first thing done here for both was a good burn to disk and later seeing a nice clean of each go on. That solves any number of problems and is actually the recommended advice from MS. 7 is stll not in it's final form where you can simply upgrade from this to that. The RTMs if leaked before the general release are more apt to see that happen.

    Dual boot - XP Pro and Win 7 Beta

    Dual-boot

    Hmm..

    Interesting to read that MS wants this to be a real-world experience - and then defines that experience as upgrading from Vista. Many of us have not upgraded or installed Vista for lots of reasons.
    I was, however, willing to beta test Win7 on a partition, and that proved valuable (to me).I like Win7 but compatibility continues to be an issue. Wonder of that will change when 7 comes out and (hopefully) more programs are re-written for it.

    Assuming all the bugs are worked out (!) I'll back up and upgrade my XP based system fairly soon after the official release date.
    For now I'll follow instructions and upgrade my Win7 partition so I can see how that goes. Don't have an extra computer anyway.
