Quick question...

Alright. Sorry, I'm tech savvy but get confused easy. Here's what I'm doing: I have Windows Seven Build 7077 on a DVD via ISO. I'm going to put it in the drive, and turn off the desktop, then turn it back on and it will boot up for installation, then it'll delete the windows XP installation and just be windows seven.

So,
Few months later it doesn't work for me or I need to send the computer for repairs. I boot up, when the splash screen comes up, just press the F11 key into Recovery and do a destructive recovery and I'll have my Windows XP back, right?

Yes, and by delete XP i assume you mean format that partition.

P.S. forgot to mention you can run the setup from the cd in XP you do not need to boot from the cd. Hmmm maybe i should point out that the the recovery process returns the partition back to the factory install so any data you have added will be lost.

Well, I meant like put Seven over XP.

So this is sure fire, no chance I won't get back into XP?

If you do not format the partion it will not delete XP, it will move it to a folder in case you wish to recover it (which takes up a lot of room on the drive). This is BETA software nothing is sure fire, that is why MS asks you to not use on your daily machine without making a backup that is not on that machine.

Yes as long as you do not install 7 to the recovery partition.

OK, here goes:

Laptop running Windows Vista x86 Business. Installed Windows 7 build 7000 as an upgrade - then upgraded to build 7048, then 7068.

2 nights ago I restored my laptop to factory defaults, in anticipation of upgrading to build 0777.

As long as you do ***not*** delete those recovery partition(s) *manually* you will be fine.

If you don't know about partitions, and are unfamiliar with the way things are, I highly recommend you get the assistance of someone who can help you while you are physically at your computer. If you know what you are doing, then you'll be OK. If not, you can easily hose the recovery.

I am not saying this to scare you, but to make you aware that it is not a simple "plug it in and away it goes" - you need to have some technical knowledge when beta testing an OS, this is not for the Novice to play around on for props or macho points.
