    Trouble with upgrade

Hi, I have been using windows 7 since the beta, I had windows xp pro prior. I partitioned my terabyte hard drive to 400-600GB. One to have as a slave. I went out and bought the student edition of windows 7, now when I found my windows xp pro disk the setup doesn't recognize my partition. Is there a way I can put in my xp cd key in windows 7? I'd like to not install windows xp at all or mess up my partition. Thanks in advance!

You don't need to have XP installed to use the Upgrade version of Win7, just have your XP on hand in case activation questions should ever arise in the future.

If you still have RC on the HD, just boot the Win7 DVD, it will scan the HD to see another OS and allow use of the Upgrade version key. Then you can format the partition before installing.

if you have any problems, there are workarounds given here so you don't have to reinstall XP: Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version
