It was an interesting project, thanks for the update.
i know i said i was giving up on this but i just had an idea, would a IDE to SATA cable do the job? iv got to go into the pc shop tomorrow anyway so i can pick one up
You'll have to go into your BIOS and change your boot order. I know doing this with XP would stop it from booting because of the path in the boot.ini file. I'm not sure what will happen with your current windows 7 install but don't be surprised if it doesn't work. Now we get to something nobodies mentioned yet. Normally if you were going to dual boot XP and 7 you would install XP first then 7. Windows 7 would see XP and setup the dual boot for you. have you considered that and what you have to do to make it work going the other way? You've got two partitions on that drive right?
All you have to do if you have Win 7 first then install XP is do a Startup Repair on Windows 7 after, to get it booting.
