Dual Monitor with Radeon 4890. Please advise.

    Hi all!

I'm so happy to find this forum!

Just upgraded to windows 7 yesterday night. I have a 17 inch monitor + another 42 inch tv. Would like to set up dual monitor - Able to work on the monitor while my hdmi TV is playing video from the internet.

    Is this possible? Please advise!

    Hi Classy310,

It sure looks possible to me, grab the latest drivers and software from the website, install and plug both monotors in - AMD Support Search.

EDIT: Remember to select the correct edition of the catalyst software for Win7 (32bit or 64bit) depending on your operating system before you download it.

    Enjoy

Hi there! thank you for your reply!

Currently i'm able to have a dual display. Basically my TV is displaying exactly what my monitor is showing.. sharing the same desktop

But what i need is 2 desktop for 2 display. I can do my work on my monitor while my TV desktop can use to surf net or play videos. Is it possible? I can't figure it out. Am new in this. Appreciate if there is a step by step help.

    Thank you!

ah.. now I understand and yes it is possible. Unfortunately I'm travelling and don't have the software on my netbook with me, so I can't give you a step-by-step guide.

But basically - after you have installed the drivers that I mentioned above. It will install a program called ATI Catalyst or Hydrovision (which ever one is attached to your card). This software allows you to configure more than one desktop display and importantly Extend your Desktop currently you have the the displays set to Mirror. You will need to open the software and go through the menu's.

If it's Catalyst you will reach a screen with the picture of two screens on it, somewhere here you should be able to Extend your desktop (or share your desktop) with the other monitor. If you see a tick box or anything about mirroring your displays then you are close to it (but untick the box).

Sorry I can't be more specific, I'm running off memory....... which is not too good.
