64 bit needs a 64 bit processor and 4+ gb of RAM. You also need the 64 bit installation media to install it. Each Win7 license allows the use of either 32 bit or 64 bit.
If you have more than 4gb of RAM, then the only way it will all be used is with 64 bit OS. There are more problems with drivers and some programs (not all run in 64 bit, but will default to 32 bit if not) but you can always try it and switch back to 32 bit if you don't like it.

The advantage is it will be able to use more ram. I have 8gigs in 1 of my systems, never uses all of it but......and the cpu will be utitlized better if you are using a lot of apps at once, even better so if you are a gamer.
