try changing your Hard drive mode to IDE from the BIOS, that usually fixes it

Seems odd that you want them to learn an old operating system then have to relearn a new one after? Are you booting from the XP install disc and have you fully formatted the hard drive first? Usually that is all you need to do.

These are the possible issues that can be preventing you from installing XP: Advanced troubleshooting for "Stop 0x0000007B" errors in Windows XP

    TIP:
You can run Windows XP inside VirtualPC (the Microsoft-supplied XP VM is only for Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise). If you have your own XP disc, you can use that though. I know that you can also run XP Mode in VirtualBox instead of VirtualPC too.

The advantage of running XP inside a virtual environment is that nothing on the outside is touched, and you can integrate your existing hardware (webcams, USB devices, optical drives, etc) with the virtual machine. Also, you can convert that virtual machine into an actual disc image and install it on a real computer. I'd have to say the biggest advantage though, is Undo Disk. Undo Disk is a file where all the changes to your virtual machine are saved, and you can choose whether or not to apply them before you shut it down. So if your kids accidentally put a virus on there, you can choose to discard the changes and just reboot the virtual machine and start from the last save point.

I can give you a hand if you're interested.

    Hello All,
Warm thanks from deep inside for your care,
ilesal: they teach them at school on XP they are young and i will install win7 for them after 2 years,
and I didn't format it! I'm afraid to format it, then it will not install any windows version then it will be a big trouble,
so if i formatted then it will install XP with no problems?

Product FRED: thank you for long details, I really appreciate it :) , but the laptop is for the kids only and I want to install real copy to them.

    Best regards for you all,
wishing to hear from you soon.

    Abed.
