    vista upgrade to win7 problems

    hi all

i have a gateway core solo laptop with vista on it. i have a upgrade disk win7 and tried to do the setup.exe but it does not let me install. i also tried to boot from cd win7 but it gives me a error message saying that it cannot continue. it stalls after the hardware compability part and does not let me even format the hard drive so i can try to do a full clean install.

What ways are there to override the gateway software vista, seems like gateway has a lock on it and wont let it install win7 upgrade.

i dont have the problem on my dell.. any solutions ? i dont have the vista gateway disk. what am i doing wrong?

Call or chat gateway to find out if they truly have a BIOS lock on that model.

You can also clean the HD to give a cleaner slate and force the installer to autostart.

Make your Recovery disks or back up a System Image if you want a path back. Unplug all other drives.

Boot Win7 DVD Repair console, click through to Recov Tools list, open a Command Line, type:

    DISPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (for Win7 target)
CLEAN ALL (zeroes HD, deepest clean, takes awhile)
    EXIT

Now boot back into Win7 to Custom Install, using Drive Tools to create partition(s) as you wish, format before installing Win7 to first partition.
