crash after installing on first boot

    I'll let Orbital Shark work on this so we don't cross wires any more but will continue to monitor progress. I really think if you bypass the installer that you can get a working system.

    i agree that bypassing the final setup stage would prob give me a working system but how would i do that also if you want to add me on msn so we can talk that way im:baker_120@hotmail.com

    Every Windows 7 install has a working generic image embedded in it that can be extracted with a tool called imagex.exe. That post link above explains how to do it. If he can get to the drive he's trying to install Windows 7 and the Windows 7 ISO to from within Windows XP then it's as simple as mounting the ISO and expanding file out onto the Windows 7 target volume. Then just setup the boot files with bcdboot.exe and make that volume active or if it's a separate disk boot off it with the BIOS options.

    You've bypassed the point of failure and should be able to continue...

    It's the Windows 7 ISO you downloaded and burned to DVD -- you know that file right?

    ah yes i know that file well i no longer have that file is there a way to extract it from the dvd as i live in australia and are internet is crap i only get 15GB a month and most of that is gone
