    Installation error "can not open file C:\recovery.dat"


    hi
    i install a friends laptop windows 7 ultimate.
    before there was home premium but after installation we had an error mesage:
    in a white screen with big fonts "can not open file C:\recovery.dat "

    how can i solve this problem?

    It is likely the Recovery Partition for the pre-installed OS (Home Premium?) is still there and causing issues.

    Since Recovery is likely disabled anyway with a clean install, you should probably have wiped the HD before installing Ultimate.

    However, if you want to post back a screenshot of your full Disk management drive map, we can help you remove the Recovery and any other problems while possibly preserving the current Ultimate install. This may require recovering critical boot files into Win7 but we can give you the steps to do this once we see the exact configuration.

    Use the Snipping Tool in Start menu to capture Disk Mgmt, attach file using paper clip in Reply Box.
