Windows 7: Clean install, way too slow.

Here's the screenshot snippet. It took a long time to get, 'cause windows is running too slow. ><

Actually, it occurs to me that it might've taken a long time to install because I did it with a DVD, I've had minor issues with this dvd drive a good while back. It still doesn't explain why the OS runs like cold molasses even after it's installed, though.

Once it DOES finally finish installing, windows runs slow, very slow. Applications take two minutes to load. Once explorer loads, it takes two minutes to switch tabs.

Installing firefox takes forever, and IT runs slow.

Getting Ubuntu 9.10 loaded and working took 25 minutes. Works liquid smooth.

windows 7 home premium.

I'm running:

9850 AMD quad-core processer.
Biostar tf560 a2+ motherboard.
4 GB ram. Not sure on the vendor.
9800 gt video card. not sure on the vendor.

START | type MSCONFIG | Enter key |
StartUp tab

Now uncheck everything except microsoft stuff and stuff from your hardware supplier.

Apply button Ok button REBOOT! your computer

Problem gone?

Ack, sorry daryll, I should've asked what you meant. I've proven myself to be a complete idiot today.

Karl, I'll try that next. It takes a while to log in, do something, then close windows in its current state. Drivin' me nutzbatty.

Thanks y'all for being patient with me today.

Did you install drivers yet? Maybe you should...Don't know...
This is not normal behavior, I would assume based on my own computer specs.

Great point... your chipset drivers not being installed could affect this...

Since its a Dell you can search your service tag # (its on a sticker on the side or bottom or you can view in BIOS)
Here: Dell - Drivers and Downloads

Custom machine, biostar tf560 a+ mobo. Not a dell.

Problem solved, anyway. I started over from scratch. I figured if it failed, I'd just stumble to the corner, shoot up some caffeine, and cry.

As it happened, installing it took just under 30 minutes this time. Seems to work smoothly.

Almost eerie...

Anyway, thanks everyone for the help!
