James, I had trouble initially with an Nvidia card. I finally had to get another card - also an Nvidia 7600 GS. Even with it, I had to try five different drivers to get it to work properly. And it was not lastest driver nor the beta driver that ended up working. I have not a problem since I installed that driver and that has been three months.

Just to let you know I attempted to reload the video driver and this time it allowed me to do so. So far the computer has not crashed again and I can watch videos. However, I can only go to 1280 X1024 screen resolution and on XP I know I was higher than that.

What resolution did you use with XP? You may have to experiment with drivers. Are you getting your drivers directly from the Nvidia website?

I let windows update the drivers. As much trouble as I have had getting this work, I think I am happy as it is and am now afraid I will mess things up. So far for the last few hours everything has worked fine.

I don't remember the resolution but it was a couple of step smaller than what I have now but I can live with it.

    Again, thanks for the assistance.

If it it working for you, that is fine. If it's not broke, don't fix it.

However, as a general rule you are better off getting drivers from the manufacturers' websites. The drivers I tried from the Windows website were part of my problem. When I got my system running as it should, it was because of a driver I downloaded from Nvidia. I always try the manufacturers' sites first and as a very last resort try the Windows.

And I'm glad it is working.
