Vista to windows 7 installation problems

    FIRST TIME FORUM USER

    I am upgrading from VISTA 64bit to a Windows 7 64bit OS. I downloaded
"Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor" and ran the program. The report returns a
problem highlighted with a red X, "We had a problem checking your
system for compatibility with Windows" with no further details given.
What action is needed or should it be ignored?

I ran the Windows 7 installaion but it terminates with a message that "Nero Burning Rom" should be unistalled. I was unable to uninstall. I then searched the registry and removed any direct or indirect reference to Nero Burning ROM but I still have get the same message when I attempt to install Windows

    Help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    Download and try this ccleaner

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

It should get rid of all traces of the problem program. But a clean install is best.

Frankly, I would not spend much time on this. The upgrade can take an hour or more. You could make a backup, or should be doing that already, and then do a clean install of the upgrade by following this thread.

Download the Nero cleanup tool from http://www.nero.com/redir.php?id=4558.

When you boot the DVD to Clean install, select Custom install, then use Drive Tools to delete all partitions, create new one(s) as you wish, then format before installing Win7 to first partition.

I personally would zero the HD to get the deepest clean due to the Nero corruption - nearly as bad as Norton.

As everyone has stated you should really do a clean install. It will give you an option to format or delete. Do both if it will let you. I have a disc wiper that I use 2 or 3 times b4 I install and I have NEVER had an operating system issue after a clean install.

Using an upgrade DVD you can do a clean install very easily. You just boot from the DVD and choose advanced options when asked, assuming that you have the supporting OS to upgrade from.

    Vista to Windows 7

I have decided to stick with VISTA for the time being. I think I have some system/hardware problems that need to be resolved. I will do a clean install when I decide to change OS. Thanks to everyone who responded.:)
