Can you boot Vista media from the usb ?
You could always boot into Vista PE 2.1 go to command prompt , put 7 flash in - or even the 7 dvd you made , use command prompt to run setup.exe ( in the 7 sources folder).
Or if you find Vista install/recovery media boots up fine, remake the 7 dvd/flash using Vista bootsector.
I'm trying to install 64 bit Win 7, my Vista is 32 bit.
Do you have the latest BIOS version update?
Try clearing the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS
Then try again booting from DVD and USB.

I reset my BIOS, no dice. I'm trying the alternative method now. I'll let you know if it works, although, at this point in time, I've completely lost faith in my computer. I'll test my mem and HD after if this doesn't work. Other than that, I think I'm running out of options rather quickly.
Does Vista media boot up ok?
Don't worry, I install 64 bit o/s from the 32 bit winpe all the time you will only be using it to get to command prompt and circumvent the initial setup issue.
Vista media? I don't know how to access WinPE. I'm able to function on Vista... barely. But it's doable. Most everything works except it is very sluggish and I am unable to use web browsers. Processes frequently crash, but that's about it. I should have cmd line access.

When you boot one of those - a mini version of Windows loads into memeory. That is calleed WinPe.
Vista uses WinPe 2.1, which is easier for some machines than the Win 7 version , which is called WinPe 3.0.
WinPe means Windows Pre installation environment. There is also WinRe - Windows Recovery Environmet.
No I have neither. I bought my PC from cyberpowerpc.com and they did not include any of that stuff.
This seems an awful lot like the end of the road for me.
Not til you test your hardware, wipe your HD and try autostarting the DVD as it will normally do with blank HD.

I'm just confused on why it locks up at ACPI Controller in the device listing when I try to boot from USB. It did the same thing with the Win XP CD I popped in yesterday. It's notable to say that when I used the USB tool from Microsoft, it did not hang, it just went straight to Vista. However, when the USB was formatted in Fat32, it did hang.
