Use Windows to format the Hard Drive.

    1) Boot DVD.
    2) Press Shift+F10 (for command prompt)

    Type in command line
    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (win 7 HD)
    CLEAN ALL
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    ACTIVE
    FORMAT=NTFS
    ASSIGN
    EXIT
    EXIT

After hitting that 2nd exit, you will be returned to the Win 7 install and you can continue with the install procedure.

    Erik,
How long clean all takes depends upon the size of the disk, the speed of your system, etc.

Clean All is writing zeroes to each and every byte on your hard disk.

For a 1.5 or was it 2.0 Terabyte disk, this took 5 hours and 15 minutes.

Normally, you'll finish up in about 30 minutes.
