    Trying to install XP

I want to dual-boot XP with Windows 7 because I liked some features of XP that are completely unavailable in 7. I mean completely, because there is no way around it. Problem is, I need to install XP first for the dual boot, then 7. Whenever I try to install XP, I get a blue screen of death when it tries to initialize the first time.

    How can I fix this?

Before I forget, I did try completely reformatting the hard drive before starting.

My guess would be that you miss all the XP drivers for your system - starting with the Sata driver which makes you fail as soon as XP hits the fan.

Well, what I'm trying to do is install from the disk onto a completely reformatted drive, absolutely no software on the computer. It bluescreens and does not allow me to finish installing it. My computer started out with Vista, and I upgraded to 7 in December. I just thought a dual boot with XP would be beneficial to my goals, and my computer won't let me.

And how would I get this Sata driver?

It is the XP driver for the SATA HD controller for your mobo. Find it on the Support Downloads webpage for your mobo or Computer model, which might list it as Chipset.

    You could use XP mode

I don't want to use XP mode, though, because that requires a Virtual Machine, and my friend had a virtual machine that destroyed their hard drive. I realize this is probably just paranoia on my behalf, but it's damn hard to crash a hard drive like that.

The drivers you have to find yourself - Google helps. For slipstreaming, see Greg's post.
