MS wants you to do what I did. The wife and I wanted to share our printers but instead of tearing my hair out I got the wife a win7 laptop and shipped her Vista laptop to her mother. That was an easy and pragmatic solution.

Sorry, I can't help it... But I think that might be true... Forcing everyone to use Windows 7 because the networking somewhat sucks when mixed with other OSes... <sarcasm>Smart move Microsoft </sarcasm>

Yes, that is really the best solution. However, living on a fixed income, I really don't wish to spend what little discretionary income I have on a copy of Win 7 for my wife's netbook. She is, shall we say, not computer adept and she is very comfortable with XP.

I don't think my wife notices any difference because the only programs she ever uses are AOL, Word and the snipping tool. But with those she can do anything she wants, even a very fancy blog - ah, I forgot Paint which she uses to scan pictures from the multifunction printer. I set it up exactly like her old Vista system and all she has to do is push the same buttons (shortcuts) - LOL.
And it is that scanner that I want to share and she wants to share my photo printer - thus all Win7 now.

When I finally got her XP machine in the homegroup and she could print, she was happy! If I installed Win 7 on her laptop, she would no longer have Outlook express and she would be lost! She mainly uses her computer for email and to download and share photos. She is a camera nut. All is working well now, she is happy, and I'm not about to change anything. When momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.

Yeah, it's amazing what the ladies can do with their computers considering that they use it like an appliance. LOL
