uninstall fails for java 6 ...

yesterday my windows updated it self when i shut down. using windows 7 home premium. i had java SE 6 update 19 before - was working fine the last week. i did try to re install the JRE as it was not working in firefox

today when i tried to use a java program - java threw an error:
    Registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion'
has value '1.5', but '1.6' is required.
    Error: could not find java.dll
Error: could not find Java SE Runtime Environment.
i can see the java files in the installed foler (java_home) points to it. i tried to uninstall from the control panel but the uninstaller says "A required DLL is not found cannot uninstall"

and the installer wont let me install to a new location till I uninstall the current

    ----

also wanted to know besides not being able to join a domain etc what are the differences between Home Premium and windows 7 enterprise? is there a list somewhere?

    ---

should i switch off windows auto update - and only apply critical patches manually?

    For Differences Between Windows Editions:
    Compare Windows 7 Editions

    For Your Java Problem:
Download an uninstall program like Revo Uninstaller (Google for it)
    Uninstall Java with that program.

revo did not work. it found a lot of entries but when i asked it to delete, it seemed to try but i think my windows stopped it - as it was all there still. (i'm an admin on this system, but maybe i need to start the revo exe from an admin prompt so it runs with those privilidges?)

java problem is solved for now - i found a newer update java6 update 20 (earlier was java 6 update 19) so that installer worked !
