Windows 7 7100 - Not Enough Disk Space Error

I am having problems in Windows 7 7100 x64 with it not wanting to install as an upgrade on my Windows Vista SP2 x64 installation. I have uninstalled the things that I know would be problems: Daemon Tools being the only one on my machine, and it keeps on spitting a message saying "Not Enough Disk Space" at me.

This is really getting annoying, because I have seen reports that Windows XP x64 and Windows Vista x64 had the same problems when updating from one to the other, and I cannot find a fix for this problem.

Does anyone have a fix for this or some suggestions? I am trying to install this on a Gateway P-7811FX computer with Windows Vista SP2 Home Premium on it.

C:\ has over 80GB's free now (I moved some stuff of it to another computer), so I know that cannot be the problem.
To espouse something that I also tried: defragmenting it didn't work. Totally defragmented, still pops up the error saying "Not Enough Disk Space".

Considering that even for an upgrade install, it is only supposed to need, at most, 12gigs... I'm honestly at a loss.
The only other thing I can think is that there is some registry key telling it that it has less than the required amount of space or compilation error in the disc that I am using to install Windows 7 7100.

Vista SP2 is still a RC Escrow Beta .... it's not final, so you may be experiencing problems there.

I'm testing it on my "Vista Business" laptop and I wouldn't even consider an *upgrade*.

Well, until this point, I have never had a problem with an 'Upgrade' installation, dating back to Windows 3.1..... so I am more than willing to consider an Upgrade installation considering that I have never had problems with them (and that's 'upgrade' installing a good 10,000 computers!).

In fact, I cannot honestly call this a problem with the 'Upgrade' installation.... it's more a problem with the Setup launcher, since I never get even CLOSE to putting one file (save the temporary ones) on my computer.

I'm sure that the RC-escrow of Vista SP2 is not the problem. If it was, it would be flashing me a message telling me "Cannot identify Windows Vista!" or something like that, like they SAID would happen if you were going to do the RC release of Windows 7 on top of a 'test build' or even the public beta.
I doubt it would be shooting me an error saying "Not Enough Disk Space".

I also have to say that I didn't have a problem with updating Windows XP SP3 Beta to Windows Vista when I got ahold of Vista and decided to do an upgrade installation, so again... doubt it is the Beta being on there that is the source of this problem.

Yeah, I kinda do know what I am doing, to put it mildly. A+ Certified, working on near 12K computers, able to fix Microsoft Office and other programs when they REALLY get borked and it means 'registry diving time'...... but even I am one to admit when I am 'out of my depth' and this installation problem is a case where I honestly am, because it would mean having a inside knowledge of the installer to realize "Okay.... what in the world could cause this problem?"

If this was a problem AFTER I installed Windows 7 or when installing a regular program.... okay, that I would be able to (most likely) fix the problem....... a problem with the INSTALLER for Windows 7? Nope, out of my element there, and not afraid to say that I am.

I also have to report that I am not the only one getting this error, and no one thus far on Anandtech, ZDNet or HardOCP have been able to figure out how to solve this.
I've also posted this on TechNet now...... and none of the people there can figure this out, and they have said that the Vista SP2 Beta shouldn't be causing the problem.

I've looked to see if I have any incompatible programs...... nope. I was sweating the NVidia drivers package for Notebooks I have on the computer, but it doesn't appear to be the problem (uninstalled it to make sure then re-installed it after a reboot for each).
