    Problems with new motherboard installation

I've just bought a new motherboard and memory and i've tried to incorporate it into my systems using the same everything else but it doesn't seem to work.

I get to the windows icon then it stops and reboots offering me the option of a rescue boot that tries to fix it but gets nowhere.

A bit at my wits end as to what to do. I've uninstalled everything in the computer but the ram, the video card and the hard drive but no luck. Tried to create a repair disk but it just boots the same way.

Motherboard is G31T-M7 with dual core 2 ghz
    RAM is 2 X 2 gig ddr2 reaper

I've got the 32 bit client for windows 7, dont know if that makes a difference.

I didn't keep the full install of the client to do a wipe and reinstall, is there any way I can do this with the installation I have?

At my wits end here so any help would be much appreciated.

since it is a new mobo, you are going to need new drivers. can you safe boot? repeatedly hit F8 when booting. If you can you can get the new drivers you need and install them in safe mode

hopw this helps and let us know if y ou need help with any of this

Try booting with just one stick of ram, one drive, and see what happens... however, my gut instinct is a bad install .... re-download, burn at the slowest possible speed and reinstall... what is the source of your ISO image??

What's recommended here is a clean install of Win 7. Yes, you can get your existing install converted with drivers for the new mobo, but that is going to be a hassle. Try a repair install if you really want to keep your existing Windows.

If you are having problems on an install, temporarily remove one of the RAM sticks. Update your motherboard bios to the newest available from the manufacturer.

    Hi paulonline123

Run Repair your computer, press F8 at start up, or your vista DVD.

    Repair Install

Ok, tried single RAM stick with no change. Cannot access f8 as I don't get the option.

Put Win 7 disc in DVD drive. Go into bios and set the first boot device to be the DVD drive. Reboot. Windows will load from the disc and you can continue from here. I'd let it do a clean install. It will put all your old stuff in Windows.old folder so you will not lose anything. You can copy stuff out of the old users folder to the new one after, to retain software settings. You will have to install all of your software though, and then copy the settings over.

go into msconfig and enabled the /detecthal option, replace motherboard, restart, win.

EDIT: They seemed to have removed it from there. You can do it with BCDedit

    bcdedit /set {current} detecthal yes
