Move existing windows installation to a different drive

    Hi,

I'm trying to move my win7 to a bigger and better hard drive.

My original idea was to create a system image and restore it to a different hard drive with windows repair (after all, this is what you would do after a hard disk failure). However, it only allowed me to restore the image to the original hard drive.

    Any ideas?

Well the Windows 7 imaging feature is not as robust as some third-party programs.

Figured it out after half a pack of cigarettes - I had to physically disconnect my original drive, and then it finally didn't insist on restoring the backup to that one. After selecting the destination drive, it created a partition on it that matched the size of my old drive, but I could extend that to the full disk size later in the disk manager.

Now on to some new adventures...
