    Issue:Windows 7 and XP dual boot(Win 7 installed First)

    Hii...

    I have some problem regarding Windows 7 and XP dual boot.

    I have first installed Windows 7 in C Drive, after that I made 3 more partitions in the remaining space. After which I installed Windows XP Pro in F Drive which was successfully installed making Windows 7 Boot Option Obselete while booting.

    I mean to say that when ever I start my system it starts with Windows XP as default, without giving any option for Windows 7.

    After which I made several try to make my Window 7 to Boot but not succeed.
    I have tried : The Boot.ini file changed manually of F Drive i.e. of XP as

    1st Try

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 7" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    2nd Try

    [boot loader]
    timeout=30
    default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 7" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

    With all these efforts I got the Screen with both options for Windows 7 as well as for Windows XP while Boot, but unable to Boot with Windows 7 where as from here I can choose the Windows XP and start.

    Please suggest.

    Welcome to SF!

    No problem at all. First, mark your Windows 7 partition as active.

    Then, run a startup repair on Windows 7.

    That will make the default boot entry 7's boot loader, and XP will be inaccessible. To fix that, add XP manually to 7's boot loader using EasyBCD 2.0. You will need to register with a free account in order to download.

    You need to register at NeoSmart to be able to download beta builds. I did and tried it. Seems cleaner and easier to use than the previous 1.7.2 version I had.
