Windows 7 RC 7100 slow install

I downloaded Windows 7 RC x64 when it first hit Usenet/torrents. I downloaded it form Usenet, and the MD5 and SHA1 match those of the version from MSDN/Technet. It installed fine on my previous system (Asus A8N-E, 2 GB OCZ DDR400, AMD X2 4400+ Toledo core, socket 939).

First weird thing: when it first starts to load off the DVD and there's the white progress bar and black background, the progress bar went to 100% real fast and then started over again and went slowly.

Once past that, it goes to starting Windows where you have the wallpaper with the little bird and other graphics. Well, that's all I got, that and a working mouse pointer. I went to another computer to start looking for answers on the Web. I then hear the DVD spin up and back down, but still nothing.

After a good 5 minutes, I look over and it's at the point where you select your country, keyboard layout, etc. I click next and it's back to waiting . . . Things got faster once I got past the "expanding files." Configuring settings, etc., went at about normal speed.

I have Windows loaded now and it's running fine. In case I have to install again, I went ahead and burned another copy at slow speed (4x), although I don't think it's the DVD.

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

i'm facing very similar problem when installing Win 7 RC Build 7100
i've burn the iso using 8x speed, and then try to install (x86 & x64) to these pcs :
- Pentium D Based CPU with 1GB DDR2 (x86 & x64)
- Pentium Dual Core Based CPU with 4gb DDr2 (x86 & x64)
- toshiba M100 Notebook with Intel Pentium duo and 2GB ddr2 (x86)

at toshiba m100, my installation progress was running normally without long waiting message like "loading setup, etc, etc"
but at my PCs, the problem appears (long waiting message like "loading setup, etc, etc")

i think this is an installation bug, not media problem (like burning at slower speed), i hope microsoft will release fix about this and replace build 7100 with a new one.

i'm having the same problem guys. just installed windows 7 on my new pc and it took about 3 times as long as it did on my much older laptop. very strange! just hanged on the new bird theme background with the mouse cursor for over 5 minutes!

No, no USB drives. One SATA HD drive and a PATA DVD drive. I did use a wireless keyboard and mouse both with USB dongles.

I got the same problem and I did use wireless k/b and mouse with one USB dongle.
I thought that's the root cause, maybe I can remove its all to verify next time.

My installation went pretty well.

Except the (%) while expanding windows was stuck at 0% for few mins. Other than that all went well.

I burned my DVD at 4x speed.

Hope burning DVD at lower speed is recomended.

THX 'mobow' for your kindness here, any1 having any problems like this follow the link in his post... COZ I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM with Vista SP1 32-bit and 7 build 7077 & 7100. And I believe the problem was bcoz I removed my floppy disk but i couldn't disable it from the BIOS... then this problem popped out... At first I though a 7 bug, but Vista also has the same prob(didn't BOTHER trying XP). Then I thought it was my computer's problem TILL i saw ppl with i7 builds having problems.. i was shocked... then saw the link mobow gave everything came to light then...

thanks mobow , disabling the phantom floppy drive on the main screen in bios fixed it.

I couldn't do anything, I tried disable floppy from BIOS, I tried unplug the IDE devices, I tried unplug SATA devices, I taked off 2 GB RAM, I did everything that people told me, but nothing worked for me. I hope that MS solve this problem or at least they give a solution, because it's a very weird.
