    Windows 7 Setup - Reboots

    Hi folks,

Looking for a little guidance here if you have time.

I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate (current MSDN copy) to my machine and each time the system starts it gives me the "preparing your system for first use..." message - then reboots without explanation. Ir does the same thing whether I'm booting normally or in to safe mode, command prompt, whatever.

    Roughly, my specs are:

    Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe w/ WLAN
    Athlon 64 Dual Core 6000
4 GB RAM - Corsair Low Latency Matched Sticks
    GeForce 6600 (VGA/DVI)
2-300GB Maxtor SATA Drives in a Raid-0 (striped) Array

This was a fresh install to a blank drive setup. Setup started normally and found my drive array. I didn't install any third-party drivers as I understand Win7 ships with the proper drivers. I stalled to the array and it starts to boot up fine - then reboots. Rinse and repeat.

I have switched to a VGA cable (from DVI) and it made no difference.

Any idea -or- a next step? I'd love to be able to see a log of what it's trying to load/do when it reboots. But I can't even get on the machine to do that!

FWIW, I installed from a USB thumb drive.

    Thanks!

    Matt

    Welcome to SF!

You may want to try reinstalling, just to make sure nothing got corrupted somehow.

Also, pull all but 1 stick of RAM out, and disconnect any other hardware, such as video cards, USB devices, etc.

You may also see if a startup repair works.
