I get an error that I have a program called "Disk Expert v2" installed that needs to be uninstalled before the upgrade can continue (32 bit - trying to upgrade from build 7057 which installed fine).

I don't have anything in add/remove programs that looks like "Disk Expert", so I have no clue what the compatibility checker is finding. Any ideas out there?

having the same problems as the OP.

    My Hardware:

    GA-X48-DS4 (gigabyte X48 mobo)
    Q6600 @ 3 Ghz
    4 x 2GB Ram DDR2 800Mhz (8Gb Total)
Sapphire HD3870 stock - Using Dual Monitors
    2x WD Caviar ( 500 + 160Gb ) SATA
    1X Seagate ( 250 Gb ) SATA
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Gamer

    Windows Vista SP1 Ultimate
Interestingly, the first time I tried to install, it "hanged" in the data collection part, after leaving all night the computer, it went correctly until the same part of the OP, the data transfering ( Stuck at 62% )

Seems the things we have in comon is:

    1.- 8GB Ram
    2.- ATI's 3870

note that no bsdos, no errors apart from hanging (note, not freezing, it just gets like its processing but does nothing.. )

Im gonna try the last time but with every USB device removed, and my secondary monitor disconnected.

From what I have heard....the first (easy) thing I would try is to shut down, Take the RAM down to 2GB and try installing. I've heard some weird stuff happening with 4GB let alone 8GB. Good luck.

Really? mine stuck at 62% too, it must be doing something there that our systems don't like.

It'll be interesting to see what it is doing at that point.

did the vista installation advisor told you about removing Catalyst as well?
Im seriously temped to try with only 2 GB of ram or something... (also all disconnected)
by any chance, you got some hardware that vista doesnt recognize or is driverless? ( in my case a CANON scan3200F scanner, I use VmWare workstation to be hable to use it. )

Nope, Vista seems to run fine on it, although, it does report a device on IDE port 2 (an old IDE DVD-RW) is producing a lot of errors about some weird malfunction although device manager reports the device is working fine so i saw no reason to remove it.

Yeah, it asked me to remove Diskeeper, ATI (driver wise, Install Manager and Catalyst) and VMWare.

I don't get how 8 GBs of RAM would matter when it's moving files around though, seems a bit bizzare, infact, more RAM should help?

Ok andy, we now have even more in common.
I AS WELL had to remove DISKEEPER (red error in installation) and also suggested me to remove ATI driver, control manager, install manager, also VMWARE!.

more like it seems software specified bug.

ok another questions to narrow the problems.

1.- Have you had problems installing certain windows update patches? ( I have problem with 6 different ones, including IE8, wich doesnt let me install it, always rollsback on a ieunit.inf file or something similar )
2.- Have you had network card errors in Vista ?

(my case in #2 is nasty, because I just cant fix it, windows Vista will always refuse to acknowledge when any of my 2 network cards have the cable connected, it will always report a "X". I have to always change (add or remove) any non-critical protocols , after doing the change, vista will miracleously detect the cable on any of both network cards. so far I had no luck fixing this. <-- to clarify this bug, I only have to do it once every restart.
    still annoying.

    Can't say I have, there's only one 1 update I can't install and that's this one:

Realtek - Network - Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E GBE NIC
    Installation date: ‎25/‎04/‎2009 13:54
    Installation status: Failed
    Error details: Code 80070103
    Update type: Optional
DriverUpdate: Realtek Network software update released in February, 2009

Other than that, I haven't had the problems you've stated, so, it must be the things we've mentioned which still is quite vague, the only thing i thought it might be is either my Tuner card or my LG BluRay drive, but, don't suppose you have either of those do you?

    Thanks.

hmm, the error I get on all my patches are "unknow errors"
Bits related it seems, but only fails on very few patches, anyway the error is 80071aa7 in my case.

and no idea, I had removed my TvTuner (AverTV Stereo )since it doesnt have 64 bit drivers.

and I dont own a BluRayDrive, Im afraid.

Did you say you had a RAID? If not, it's gotta be either the 8GBs of RAM or the graphics card perhaps? I can't see anything else that it could be
