Win7 RC1 - How long should an upgrade take?

Sounds interesting, i'm gonna run this tomorrow and see what results I get, going to leave my 8 gigs of RAM in though and see if it still gets stuck.

I got to 63% last night. the transfer files were on 366351 0f 474703 when the error occured but kept loading up to 373731 before finally hanging.

My first experience from dvd burn was the missing file error. Luckily I had the missing file on a eee7 download (which doesnt work either - dvd driver error!!!!) so I coppied th file into sources folder and have been installing from my hard drive. 3 times its gone to last stage then hangs with the memory error.

I have just started a new download and will burn to a disc and try installing from there.

From searching other forums it appears asus motherboards are most prone, dont know if thats true?

I have an asus s6fm with 2.5 gig ram and dual core 1.33 processor running vista 32 with 120 hd.

I popped in the disc last night and let it install for about 6 hours, Mine got to 72% on the 'transferring files and settings' then hung. There was some continual flickerings on my HDD, but it seems 'the lights are on, but nobody's home'.

I'm thinking its an incompatibility with some of my software or settings from my upgrade from Vista SP1 (I removed SP2 Beta first).

I'm just going to restore the older version (yes, I know I should dual partition/ clean install, but I'm getting too lazy to reinstall all of my software) and try to clean it up a little more before trying another upgrade later in the week.

Hopefully there'll be some updates from Microsoft sooner rather than later to rectify this as I'm sure there are a lot of 'strange' configurations out there (like mine) that the OS has to get used to recognising first.

Hope the rest of you are having better luck with it, as it does look to run pretty well (once installed of course!).

Well, looks like the Upgrade Advisor is released so maybe someone should run this and see what their PC gets.

I will run this when I get home and see if any problems arise.

So, I managed to run the Upgrade Advisor and apparently, I have no problems with the system or devices and the only problem it can detect is with Ultimate Features of Vista telling me that they don't exist anymore.

Might try to upgrade again tonight to Windows 7.

Well, tried again but it BSOD'd with some USB error although I couldn't read it in time. Not sure where to go from here really.

Maybe I missed what version of Win7 are you trying to upgrade?
unmod copy of Win7 RC only upgrades from 7077 to RC 7100.

So, recently I downloaded Win7 RC1 and the upgrade is doing alright except it's been upgrading for 17 hours and 20 mins, it's making very slowly progress with the last item .. switching the message at the bottom constantly between "Please Wait..." and "Transferring files, settings and programmes (395931 of 523838 transferred)"

That I do not understand.
upgrade should not take more than 2hrs max. the average should be much less. Some things you might have failed to do:
1. disable current Firewall or ( remove is recommended)
2. disable current AntiVirus or ( remove is recommended)
3. unplug all USB devices.
from the current OS, insert the DVD or select the uncompressed files for your HD (not the boot HD).

4. Recommend you insert the proper KEY when ask.

Microsofts 7100 RC1 build, I haven't tried disabling Windows Firewall and it's very difficult to disable AVG but I will try, all USB devices have been disconnected except the keyboard which is USB.

I'd love to enter the key but can't get to that stage.

During the second restart, it'll hang on the background image and say "driver_power_state_failure" but, if i reset the machine, it'll still continue with the installation, would this have an effect later on during the installation?
