Yeah, the upgrade advisor also told me I'd have no problems. I disabled Trend Micro, but I have a sneaky suspision that I'm actually going to have to uninstall it instead. Again, I'm just being stubborn.

Either way I'll wait until next week to see if any feedback has been put into updates for the install.

So, I got to 62% and my log files are from the 18th of April, not sure why it restored old log files but anyway, i'll try removing all the crap I don't need including AVG and seeing if that makes a difference.

    Thanks.

Right, removed AVG and anything else i didn't need including some networking drivers and the ATI drivers, got to 62% and guess what? It's hung! again! so far, Vista is better than Windows 7, at least I could install Vista.

May I ask will you open the dvd \sources\cversion.ini and post the contents here. strange but I think to upgrade your version you need to change the cversion. to enable upgrade from Vista...

    62 is the magic number!

10 hours into this I'm at 62 percent. 829999 of 1098134 files. Originally I thought something went wrong and rolled back. Try again and its made it this far maby tomorrow ill have windows 7? So far I know you all are going to love this. 2 laptops upgraded from vista to beta7 to r c7 with no problems. Yes the c version trick worked. Now my home machine is either stuck for good at 62 % or its taking time not to screw up all the files on a raid 5 setup. Should know more tomorrow. For those who can't wait to say your not supposed to beta to rc well I have my thumbs in my ears and I'm sticking my tongue out at you! It works on two other machines fine. Some of us have gotten used to using these enough to not want to reinstall everything for every new version. If I can use 7beta/rc over vista until I pay for the official 7 I will. Until then we now have 2 documented cases that at 62 percent upgrade it hangs. Could it be system configuration or all those fun programs we don't feel like reinstalling? Well beta to 7 it recommended to uninstall the 2005 s q l server and partition magick that had been on this machine for years! Ygr machine is a 680i board with q6600 8gb ram 6x500gb drives 4 DVD burners 1 8600gts nvidia card, two raidmax pci express controllers just for additional ide and one of the burners is Sata, a pci usb 4 Port and a pinacle hd TV pci. Card. If this don't go up from 62 by tomorrow I'm going to start bareboneing it out till 7 upgrades. Thinking it may have to do with the raid controlers as those are usually at fault when the installation can't figure out how the software raid is set up.

Awesome, you're attempting the upgrade and i'm doing an "nondestructive" upgrade (never had that many programs installed just wanted to save the 300 gigs of files), the "clean install" doesn't appear to have a progress percentage but, it is going just as slowly but I do have high hopes for this one.

We'll see how either of these turn out!

Well basically your cversion says you can upgrade only from 7077 or higher to 7100 RC. or you can CLEAN INSTALL. MinClient 7077.0 = you can install from this version or higher only.

    1. upgrade to 7077 then upgrade to 7100.
    2. CLEAN INSTALL and then use Transfer all files to another computer. (that suks).
    3. rip the iso to HD then modify cversion.ini to read MinClient=7000.0
    4. burn the new iso and then upgrade.
    5. this should work unless all the attempts to upgrade with a version told not to... has corrupted Vista till it will not work...
    6. if this will not work. upgrade to SP2-18005 then try to upgrade with the modified cversion.
