Windows 7 crashes on installation

    Managed to install windows XP 64 bit after switching the SATA controller setting to AHCI, upgrading to 7 now. How come this worked? Thx for the help btw, ill let you know if 7 installs properly

    Got error while installing 7 and it rolled back to XP

    Try this, it was the same error code as you recieved while installing in safe mode,

    Try booting the DVD to do the install, rather than runnning it from XP.

    If you use the Drive Tools to Delete, Create New and Format the partitions you won't get a windows.old folder with all of your XP files. But since you need to back up your files anyway, better to wipe the HD and create new partition(s) before formatting.

    Since you installed XP, are you considering a dual boot? If so, follow this tutorial: Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

    Win7 will configure the Dual Boot menu when correctly installed last.
