Download, install and run keyfinder. When you get your key, be sure to copy it and put it in a safe place.

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Hi JayD - Where did you you purchase your copy of Windows 7? If you didn't purchace from a reputable retailer or Microsoft Partner, you may indeed have a nongenuine copy of Windows.

Also, Have you seen this thread? - INCORRECT "Window 7, Build 7600, This copy of windows is not genuine!"
It looks like someone else had this same issue and fixed with a reinstall of Windows 7. I'd say if worse comes to worse, a reinstall might do the trick.

Once you audit the key from HD using keyfinder, Magical Jellybean or Belarc Advisor, reinsert it at Control Panel>System>Change Product Key.

This may require a robocall to MS during re-activation to sort the actual key from a batch key, but this is no problem normally.

If this fails or is unavailable, reset activation and remove error message by doing a Repair Install

It seems unusual that the COA sticker on a Win7 machine would be worn or faded so quickly. However since it would be less than a year old, you still have manufacturer's tech support which should also help you recover your system and reactivate.

Windows 7

I just had this problem myself. I went to Microsoft's site and verified that my COA and CD were indeed legal. Then I downloaded a validation program called GenuineCheck.exe from Microsoft which after running, passed my version of windows. I have not had an issue since (Yet!). I did notice that the program downloaded an update before running so maybe on some versions of windows 7 there is a problem with the validation checker that originally comes with windows 7 and this fixes it. But who knows. I just hope this does not happen again.

I was kind of worried though after seeing that piece on the news about Amazon selling illegal software though I did not buy mine from Amazon, but from MWave. Still it makes one wonder about large companies like that, that do not check the merchandise they are selling.
