Windows 7: Getting "BOOTMGR IS MISSING" after clean install of RC1

28 Oct 2010   #11

Windows XP, Vista, Ultimate 7

I had a similar problem. At first I took a laptop with Windows X64 & Ultimate installed. Becase I had not wanted a 64 bits OS I installed a Windows X86 & Ultimate 7. I introduced DVD with Windows Ultimate 7, I choose X86, custom, and whem appear the partition I formated system partition without change anything else neither the 100MB hide partition. The installation worked fine but when it had been finished it didn't boot.
I have taken, at first, a boot hiren's cd version 10.6 a booted from it and I choose boot from harddisk with windows 7 bootmgr and it worked. Without this cd It didn't work. After that I tried to fix mbr with every program on that disk, to make partition active. In the end I inserted DVD windows Ultimate 7 and I tried repaire hardware, which appar on window with install label, I choose the partition, next and the first option the appear in the new window (something with repair disk) and surprise after restart the system booted. But this is not everything.
I had some problem and need reinstall, and the same problem, it didn't boot. Anything I have tried it was whortless. After two days of use everything give in mind I booted from Hiren's boot CD delete all partition from harddisk and made a clean install. I have booted from Windows DVD I have created system partition which autometed create 100MB partition too and other partitions. After that all it worked fine. I think this 100MB it the problem in my reseach I sow that on this hiden partition Window write the name of computer you choose at instalation and when you try an other instalation and put different names this mix it up.
So when made a new instalation delete system and 100MB partition.
Other problem with this type of instalation is that if you let the wondows to install on the hole harddisk it made a active partition which has the advantage that you can shrink it from device manager and create other partition but if you want to reinstall windows the instalation kit dont know to delete them. Beside this partition can't be seem be the a lot of program which create images or resize partition.
I hope this can be usefull for those want to spend time with this OS
