Sorry guitar looks like you'll have to install a 64bit OS mate perhaps replace the drive and get an OEM if the retail is too much. While you are at it it might be the chance to get a SSD and use the other dirve for backup or just transfer the data form the original drive to an external. The original drive will be good for a life saver if the new one goes south.

I found this. 64 bit - Application cannot access more than 4 GB on 64 bit processor - Super User

If you go with this option and personally I would make sure you align the SSD properly and use the optimise tutorial/s.
SSD Alignment < again personally I do this for all drives to make sure I don't miss the odd SSD

Optimize Windows 7[2]=Performance Maintenance < in my mind essential:)

Good luck and let us know how you go.

Ive just made an upgrade to my pc. Bought new motherboard , new processor, new graphic card
here are the rellevant links to all my components :

    http://ark.intel.com/products/69114/...up-to-3_30-GHz
    http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=4092#ov
    http://www.gigabyte.com.ro/products/...px?pid=4361#ov

I was previously running 32 bit windows 7 but now since Ive heard I cant used my new installed 4gb ddr3 RAM with 32 version I decide to install the 64 bit.

First thing Ive noticed there are two Program Files directories in my C drive : Program Files and Program files ( x86).They have pretty similar content only that some games and programs are only in x86 directory Im guessing only those running on 32 bits.So having 64 bits running will reduce your hard disk space. Are all my device drivers capable to run on 64 bits version? So every program I install will be "duplicate" in both of the directories and this will reduce my disk space?

I intend to upgrade to windows 8 so this question is for it too.

No duplicates. Program Files X86 is for most (though not all) 32 bit programs. Program Files is for 64 bit programs though some 32 bit programs get installed there if they have their own installer and don't use the Microsoft installer, at least I think that is why.

Same for Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

    I really appreciate that explanation regarding 32 v 64. I have wondered
about it being just a diff in RAM usage, but am now enlighten.

    Thank you !

    Hi there
Another good reason for using x-64 vs x-86 is if you run virtual machines.
Virtual Machines just EAT RAM for breakfast -- if you have a 32 bit machine the MAXIMUM RAM both HOST and VM can use is 4GB (Combined between Host and VM).

No such restrictions when running a 64 bit OS. You can use ALL the RAM installed in your system.

I've often had 5 or 6 concurrent Virtual Machines running under Windows 7 X-64 with a 16 GB RAM system.

    Cheers

Excellent read, now I know the limitations of 32 bit and vast difference between it and 64 bit. Thank you! :)
