There is another option to reset the user password, have a look at the tutorial at the link below; be sure to keep us informed.

Reset your Windows Password

"How To Reset A Windows Password" requires a disk which I did not have; it's a brand new laptop, and hadn't gotten that far.

"Using System Restore" I had one restore point, but that didn't work.

This looked very promising . . . "How To Change the User Account Password If Unable To Log Into Windows" First thing it asks you for is your password . . .

The other tools I'm sure will come in handy for other password/account related issues . . . and the rest of the options required a disk.

The second site: Password Reset Disk : Windows 7 / Vista
has the same requirements as the first site.

If I'd of been far enough along to have the disk, it wouldn't have been a problem.

Thanks for the references.

How To Reset A Windows Password

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I'll try again.

5 repair disks wouldn't have done me any good, because in order to do anything, I had to have the admin password which I didn't have, hence the Linux hack.

We never give up ...

Use your User Account, not the Administrator Account.

Bought new Vaio VPCEB 11FX (VPCE Series) yesterday.
Unboxed, and (per instructions - Vaio) performed Windows update and VAIO Update.
Getting late, so I clicked the power off button.

Today, I can not log in to the Admin account. This is the first and only account on the new system.
This admin account was newly created by me.

Reworded.

Use your User Admin Account, not the Sony Adminstator Account which may have a password.

How To Reset A Windows Password

Thanks theog . . .

When I booted the laptop, at the initial login, the first account I created was the "User Admin account." I entered my password, and got, "Incorrect username or password"

The screen only displayed my User Admin account, so that is the account I was trying to log into.

I wrote down my username and password on a sticky, logged in at least twice using these credentials, then the following morning they no longer work. (I'm the only one here.)

Using a "Windows" fix would have been the correct way to go about repairing the problem, I just didn't/don't know the fix.
