Admin Problem with Windows 7 Install New Laptop

Problem: Logged onto first account (Admin) yesterday twice, today I can not logon to this same account with my password.

Bought new Vaio VPCEB 11FX (VPCE Series) yesterday.

Unboxed, and (per instructions) performed Windows update and VAIO Update.

Noticed the optional update KB-971033 which I did not check to download.

Getting late, so I clicked the power off button.

Today, I can not log in to the Admin account. This is the first and only account on the new system.

    1. After several failed attempts at logging on, booted Safe mode (Recovery Options) and reset password, restarted, typed new password and this did not work.

    2. Tried to restore to, 2 earlier points in time, and this did not work.

    3. Trying to open hidden admin account per - How-To Geek

I don't know what to do here, or if I should even be here for this problem.

    Thank you for your help...

    [SOLVED]

A reminder, this was a brand new system out of the box, and I was creating the first account.

Used a Linux utility to clear the first account's (Admin) password in the registry.

Created second Admin account, so if one gets borked again, I have two Admin accounts.

However, I don't feel comfortable with this. Shouldn't I only have one Admin account?

    Quick answer is no.

I am the only user of my computer and I have 2 adm accounts and a standard account. I do not even use the adm account. If I get some sort of nasty in my computer it will infect the standard account, hopefully limiting damage (a procedure that will be disagreed by many). I do not suggest that you follow my procedure, but have 2 Adm accounts, and do not use one of them. I have seen many, posts, like yours, that would have been solved with a second adm account.

Now you cleared the password, should you delete the second account created...it shouldn't be a matter to be borked twice as you did it a little on purpose when creating the first account.

Admin Problem with Windows 7 Install New Laptop [SOLVED]

I really don't know, NoN. The Admin account works, I haven't deleted it. By the way, I gave it the same password, logged in several times without a problem, then changed the password to a more appropriate one.

Here's my confusion . . . the day I booted the laptop for the first time and went through the setup process, it asked me for my password. Till I could create a better on, I just entered dumbshoot1

And enter it twice, all goes well.

This admin account was the only account on the system (that I ceated, there's the locked Administration account) and I did all the updates, and as you know you have to reboot quit often. I was able to login several times that day as dumbshoot1 to complete the updates. Then I shutdown for the night. I'm the only one here . . . .

The next morning I boot up, and for the life of me (have the piece of paper 'admin dumbshoot1' right in front of me) can not log in. (Wrong user name or password) For the principle of the thing I spent 5 hours on it, before deleting it.

Many years as an admin, and have never seen this before.

So my question is, can the code of the login process ever fail in this manner? We know the 'authentication' process itself can be hacked, I've just never seen my dilema before.

I am going to do as richc46 suggests and that's about all I have to say now . . . .

    Thanks for the replies!

Trust me, no problems following my recommendation, but possible advantages.

Humm, might be an update during the process that have cleared the password...

I have never created an Admin account straight when booted up first time on an Os..In that case it is Windows 7.

Nor i did created a password, too frightened to forget it just after!!!

So, i did always created afterward the Admin account and in the User Control Panel created a password that i can alway reset in case (once i did as you and did have to reset it) it fail.

Windows 7 should be running as Standard user and NO Admin account for safety. If you need more rights, just disable or low down the UAC Fonction.
