startup (BSOD) with RC1

I attempted install of RC1 on a new hard drive and got as far
as "Completing Installation". System reboots and after logo goes
to black screen. No error codes.

Reboot and selected Safe Mode. Win 7 says "Can't complete installation
in Safe Mode".

Reboot, press F8, select Low Resolution. Same results. Black screen.

System config:
Asus P5Q3 Deluxe Wifi
4 gb DDR3 memory
E8500 Intel Processor
EVGA Nvidia GeForce 9800GT with 512 mb ram
On board Marvel Lan
On board Ralink Wifi
On board sound
1 - 500 gb SATA II hard drive
1 - Sata DVD

This machine runs Windows Vista Business with absolutely no problems.
This machine runs Mac OS X 10.5.6 with Absolutley no problems.
This machine runs Windows 7 Build 7000 with absolutely no problems.

I use a different hard drive for each operating system and I have
a brand new drive that I'm using to install Win 7. The drive I'm
using to install Win 7 can run Win 7 Build 7000 perfectly.

I do a clean install attempt to install RC1 and I get above results.

I reinstalled Win 7 Build 7000 on the same drive and just before boot
it says "Checking Vidoe card performance", then reboots and Win 7,
Build 700 is installed.

On clean install of Win 7, Rc 1 it appears to get to the exact same pont
(although I don't see the message about testing performance), reboots,
and gives black screen.

I have been on a couple of board and the predominant them is BSOD's
at boot for machines running Nvidia graphics. It would appear that RC1 has fouled up the Nvidia drivers.

I can't get into Low Res mode to load the approved 9800gt drivers from
EVGA so I can't complete the installation.

I'm hoping someone from Microsoft sees this and comments.

Any other thoughts or suggestiuons would be welcomed.

ok, after reading tons of threads and trying all suggestions I finally
got Win 7 RC 1 installed.

The ALT-F4 did nothing. System still hung at black screen after
reboot.

Checked the ntbtlog.txt file and found last driver loaded was
monitor.sys.

Checked the setupact.log file and found messages alluding to
issue witht he monitor.

I use a Princeton Graphics LCD 19 inch monitor. I've been using this
monitor for over 5 years with no issues.

I decided to try hooking up my old 19inch Clearmax VS-195 (an old CRT)
and guess what. System rebooted and completed installation without
an errors.

I then tried unplugging the CRT and plugging back in my LCD and no
luck - blank screen. Reversed (unplugged LCD and plugged in CRT) and
system fine and working.

Went into control Panel, Dispaly Settings and noted that my graphics card
was showing two interfaces but only one monitor so I plugged LCD into
second monitor port and it was still black.

Then decided to click on second monior (LCD) and changed from 58hz to
75hz and display appeared on LCD but no icons.

Went to advanced settings and told graphics card to duplicate displays
and now I have full desktop on both the CRT and LCD.

Next step is to disconnect monitor 1 (CRT), leave monitor 2(LCD)
plugged in and reboot to see what happens.

Be back to report after rebooting.

Disconnecting the CRT and leaving the LCD only did not work.
LCD goes black.

Went back into dontrol panel, display and went through previous process
and I am now using the LCD as my main disply on Port 1 of graphics card.
CRT is plugged in but has black screen.

I suspect that when I reboot I will have to go through this again.
LCD monitor wants to come up in 1280-1024 resolution.

I don't think it's a monitor problem as Win 7 Build 7000 works perfectly
with it. RC1 probably has a bogus driver. I did download the updated
driver from Microsoft for Nvidia Geforce 9800gt.

I may try the driver from the Nvidia site.

I really don't want to shell out bucks for a new monitor.

Went to EBGA site and downloaded Win 7 64bit driver for my
graphis card (Evga Nvidia Geforce 9800 GT) and installed.

Rebooted system and LCD now works in port 1 of card.

For others having issues with dual port graphics cards, I would suggest
that they plug a monitor into the second port. This applies to those with nvidia cards.
