Using Upgrade Media and OEM Key

I searched high and low (or so I think) for this answer already.

I've seen plenty already about performing clean installs using upgrade media, but I'm not sure it applies to my upcoming question:

I'm looking to buy a PC of which the HDD has been wiped. The product key is fixed to the case (I'm assuming it's an OEM key coming from either Dell or ASUS) but the purchase of this PC does not include OS media.

I currently have WIN 7 Upgrade media that I used for another PC that had Vista. Can I use the Upgrade Media to do the install and then use the product key on the case of the PC I want to purchase? Or does upgrade media require the use of a "upgrade" key?

I hope I'm being clear enough with my question.

Thank you in advance for any help that any of you can provide.

Yes, you can use a retail Win7 installer to reinstall factory OEM Win7, then activate using the Product Key on COA sticker on machine.

All WIn7 installers are the same, with some versions hidden. It is the Product Key which determines which version and whether OEM, upgrade or full retail will be allowed and activate.

If you need to unlock all versions in the installer, use this tool: Ei.cfg Removal Utility Lets You Use Any Product Key With Your Windows 7 Disc
