Windows7 install issues with Gigabyte

Hi,

has anyone had installation issues when using Gigabyte based systems?
I have been trying to install windows7 RC on a system using a GA-73PVM-S2H motherboard with no luck, it will progress to the first restart ok but crashes just after the restart. I have tried only using 2g ram, SATA HDD and IDE HDD with no change. PC runs Vista Ulitimate with no problems.

I have also tried to install it on a Gigabyte HTPC H963 system that also runs Vista ok, this system also crashes in similar manor. I know the DVD is ok as it installs on my laptop no problems

What makes it hard is that I get no errors, screen just goes blank and the PC reboots saying that windows was not shut down correctly and when it tries to reboot it just continues in an endless loop of crashing

Any ideas would be great

Was gonna say bad burn until I read you installed it well on laptop.

Um, you could try again with minimal USB devices connected. Like if you have USB stick connected, remove it. Or camera...etc...leave only the keyboard and mouse attached if they're USB.

There are people that have had trouble with certain graphics cards like this. There are also tricks to get around that. What card(s) are involved here?

Trikky72, by any chance your computer gets a blue screen with a "page fault in non paged area" BSOD before the reboot?

Not to me ... I have win7 build 7022 on GA-G31M-S2L ... All went like a charm ... I will be installing the build 7100 soon ... I will tell what will heppen then ...

On the GA-73PVM-S2H, I have tried disabling every thing from on board audio through to all USB support. Even tried reburning the disc on another PC

I have made sure that I have only had keyboard/mouse and network connected and I have even tried only having 2g of ram installed - PC normally has 4G

Going to try and contact Gigabyte direct as even had same issues with the BETA version too

I had a problem kinda like that. I have 2 computer the same except one has a pata dvd rom and the other a sata dvd rom. the one with sata dvd rom installs win 7 great. The pc with a pata DVD rom crashes to Blue Screen on win 7 install. So I went to this post and installed from iso in vista to 2nd hard drive with IMAGEX. Installs really fast too! Only Works
from Vista Command Promt ran as admin for dual boot.
Install Windows 7 FAST without a DVD or USB device
After you do this. just run win 7 repair to fix startup. And you should have
bootmanager at startup that will let you pick Vista or Windows 7.

might have to try that as I am using a PATA dvd drive, have a SATA one in my other PC that I can try too

Still trying to figure out what causes the the pc with Pata DVD drive to crash on install. Doesn't seem to be the DVD drive at all. At the top of blue screen, It said memory manager error. I tried again, and got another type of blue screen. So it is either my Hard drive or one of the memory chips is bad. I hate changing hard drives
because it may cause a windows re-activation on vista. Windows should have a de-activation to make hardware changes on system. But that is another story.

I recently built a HTPC using this exact motherboard, an ancient Pentium D model 820, 4GB of 800MHz DDR2 RAM, SATA DVD+RW/DL and two SATA HDD. I've had two builds of Windows 7 on this box and it works flawlessly.

Do you have the most recent F8 BIOS? Did you test the RAM by using the Repair option of the Windows 7 install DVD? Are you using a CPU that's specifically supported by this motherboard? Is the memory you are using specifically supported?

I only had 1 system fail - finally is used F6 inserted SATA drivers, then continued to install Windows 7. with out a problem...
Boot HD was SATA.
