Windows 7: Two Partitions, Two Windows 7 Problem

Two Partitions, Two Windows 7 Problem

I started with Windows XP. I used Partition Magic 8.0 to create a new partition. I then installed Windows 7 Pro onto the new partition. I've been duel booting ever since with no problems. I decided to go 100% with Windows 7 and do away with the old Windows XP.

I tried to delete partition 1 (XP) with Windows 7 disk management, no-go. I used command prompt (admin) to delete partition 1, no-go. I went back to Partition Magic 8.0, no-go. I used EASEUS Partition Master, no-go. I went into continuous circles using all four methods, no-go. I tried Partition Magic 8.0 one last time and I lost my ability to boot into either Windows 7 or XP.

What complicates matters is that when I originally created the second partition for Windows 7, I sized it to 20GB. I wasn't sure how stable it was or if I was going to keep it. When I lost my duel booting capabilities, I couldn't re-install Windows 7 into the second partition as it's too small [crowded] now. So I installed Windows 7 over Windows XP on the first partition. Now I have two Windows 7 on two partitions and I can only boot into the first partition [not given an option].

I'm back to the same problem. I can't delete partition 2 (old Windows 7) using the four above methods. 20GB may not be much but my hard drive is only 80GB, a slightly older laptop so I can't install a larger hard drive.

Normally I think I'm good but this has whammed me. So I come to you guys asking politely for help.

assuming that you don't have documents on your pc because it was recently formatted, i suggest you to format both partition using the installation dvd followed by the fresh install of 7. :)

Partition Magic and Easeus are NOT recommended for Win7. If Disk Mgmt cannot do the job then use free Partition Wizard bootable CD.

To start Win7 after deleting XP System partition, mark Win7 active, boot the WIn7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, click through to Recovery TOols list to run Startup Repair up to 3 separate times with reboots.

Since you need to mark Win7 active, you can Resize your Win7 partition into the old XP space using PW CD at the same time.
