    Hi,

I hope someone can help me here. The facts are, I have Windows Vista, an Ultimate key, no DVD drive and no USB stick or HDD. I read in some articles that it is possible, to download the Windows 7 ISO and mount it like for example with Virtualdrive or CloneDVD, then just run the setup, and it will work fine with complete installation after reboot.

My question now is, because I read in a step by step guide, that I would need to install it to an CLEAN partition, I also got this out from an Youtube video. Is this really true? So I cannot just install a new installation to Cor the current vista partition)? Doesn't the setup just copies all files into an TMP folder, and would rename the old windows to C:\windows.OLD?
I hope this is a valid legit Windows 7 Ultimate Key.

If so I would suggest at least getting a valid DVD for backup

As DocBrown said i hope you have an legit Key because piracy is not permitted on these forums.

I have installed windows 7 from the Vista desktop (mounting the ISO using Daemon Tools ) and windows worked perfectly except setup wouldn't let me install it on my Vista partition (C:\) so i installed it on my D:\ drive (which wasn't blank) and it worked fine. So I ended up having a dual boot system accidentally (Windows 7 and Vista).

Yes setup copies all of Vista files to a folder called Windows Old but i can't remember which drive it copied it to.

BTW I have installed Windows 7 from the Vista desktop and from booting the DVD. Installing Windows 7 from the vista desktop is nearly three times faster then installing Windows 7 from a DVD on Boot Up.

    Funny forum at all, really.

Of course it is a legit key...

Computer is a netbook, so no DVD drive. So could somebody please tell me now, which alternatives I have to get Win7 on it without much difficult or dangerous work to do? And no USB, no lan boot.

Problem is there's XP on that netbook, so there's no tool for reszining the partiton on the fly. Someone knows an opensource or free alternative to PartionMagic, that can handle NTFS too and works?

Purchase a 4gig memory stick, they cost about the same as two cups of coffee.

XP? Why does your first statement say Install Win7 without DVD or USB on CVista)?

take a look here: Free alternative to Partition Magic

If you mean that you are using XP and Vista in a Dual Boot then use Vista's built in Tools, that will not mess with the XP install

Because I first wanted to install it on Vista changed my mind but, and I edited in the message but not the title. Someone has ever tried EASEUS Partition Manager with XP?

EASEUS Partition Manager works great with XP. I've used it a number of times with good results.

I use an External LG USB DVD drive for a lot of Win7 installs. I use my TechNet .isos burned to DVDs. Or sometimes to 4gb to 8gb USB flash drives.
