    Windows 7 Install Problem..

Currently trying to clean install Windows 7 RTM 64 bit Ultimate on my Hp G61-320US.

The Install keeps freezing on this screen....

(For some reason the OS on the laptop wouldent boot so I figured I would just give it a clean install..

Test your memory using memtest86 for 5-6 passes or overnight.

Test your HD using maker's diag/repair full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version update from computer/mobo maker's SUpport Downloads website.

What is the SATA controller setting? Try AHCI first, then IDE.

    Reset your CMOS: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixthe.../clearcmos.htm

Thanks Greg. I ran the in bios memory test and it passed. However the hardrive test resulted in the error "Hard Disk 1 Quick (303)" ?

    Does this mean it failed????

It's quite possible that your hdd is failing or about to fail especially because HPs tend to run hot anyway, but sometimes the install will freeze and can only be finished by starting over.

I have tried the clean install about 6 times now, Im pretty sure this has to be the HDD, especially since the OS stopped working completely which is why I decided to do the clean install...

Laptop is still in warrenty... so hurray... : P

Just got off the phone with HP.... "Hard Disk 1 Quick (303)" error message does indeed mean the disk has failed...

They are sending a replacement drive....
