smiPI.dll is not a windows product - Installation ends.

I have tried to do an upgrade installation of Win 7. I ran the compatibility program with no issues. However, the installation stops with an Error message that reads that smiPI.dll is not a windows product. The install stops and I am rolled back to Vista Home.

    Anybody help is appreciated.

You will have less problems with a clean install on another partition.

    This might help Here

    Anthony:

I appreciate the response. However, my Dell came with three partitions (C is OS, D is restore and another one that is Media Direct). It appears that Vista has a max # of partitions of three. I can free up that space but I can't use the unallocated partition as I am at the max.

    Any help with the upgrade?

Wrong. Vista can create as many partitions as you like - only 3 can be Main partitions.

however, all you need to do is create the free space in Vista, then boot into the Win7 DVD and do a Custom install, and then select the free space to install into. You don't need to pre-format it or anything like that (and I highly recommend that you do not in the first place....
