I decided to try a clean install, so I wanted to increase the free space on one of my partitions using paragon partition manager but I get:

"File system has allocation errors due to cross linked files. Run OS built in tools for checking and correcting this kind of error."

I've tried chkdsk /r (including from command prompt on vista cd) but it doesn't find any problems. Is there any way of finding out exactly what files are cross-linked?

Zevin64, I'd suggest deleting/recreating the partition using your Win 7 media rather than just trying to increase the size of the partition. Sounds like you've got some corruption on the drive.

Ok, I bit the bullet and reformatted my partitions (after backing everything up of course). Did clean installs of Vista and Win 7(which I'm loving so far) I wish I wasn't so stubborn about upgrade vs clean install, lol clean install clearly has less problems overall.

Thank you Hammerhead786, and everyone else that responded.

I'm getting the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error at the start of installing the 32bit RC (7100). My system is a Gigabyte 780g board with onboard 3200 video. I'm installing to an empty drive and have all peripherals detached. I'm going to try again shortly after i update the bios.

Afd.sys is part of the winsock tcp stack in windows. its used in communications and if you have more information we could help you further.
