Windows 7 not booting issue/dual boot shenanigins

After my earlier thread, I asked my brother to install W7 on his computer using my HDD, all well and good and I plug my HDD back in my computer.Problem is the new windows 7 installation does not boot.It starts the little starting windows animation, freezes for a milisecond then my computer restarts.

I've attempted to run startup repair with and without my W7 DVD several times, but to no success. This would be part one of my problem.

Part two would be me installing XP on a seprate partition to try and find out how to fix it (I am currently using that XP install to post this) and now, being unable to start up the windows 7 partition through the F8 boot menu.I think using some partition program would fix this, but there's so many, and to be honest I don't really have a clue how to use them :)

The issue is that your brother used your HDD in his computer. You need to re install it with the HDD in your computer. It is not possible to switch the hard drive from different computers, all the drivers etc are different.

The problem seems to be you transferred the HD to completely different hardware.

    Not surprising you can't boot.

There are apps. specially made for making it bootable - Paragon does a great one called Adaptive restore.

You just point it at the windows partition and it does the job in a couple of seconds.

Ok, I should have known that before I handed the HDD over to him :P.That Paragon Adaptive Restore thing, where do I download it?I can only find links for an evaluation form which requires me to enter a company and such silly things.I assume it won't send an evaluation copy to the company called Home, with the homepage of google.com, but I typed in the form anyway.

help me clone my laptop to a new desktop

There are several ways rto do it. If you have the bootable winpe cd that comes with the new version - boot the cd, point it at the drive , that's it.

If you have the earlier version, install it on your brothers machine.

Put the HD back in your brothers machine.

Boot into your brother's o/s , start paragon, point Adaptive restore ( it's called P2P Adjust o/s ) at the HD in question, select "Do not Upload Drivers", click Finish.

Don't then try and boot it up on your brothers machine, put the HD back in your machine and boot up.

Si, will the trial version do all of that?

Moving HD to another machine works for me about 3/4 of the time, enough that I will try it to save time troubleshooting a machine that stubbornly won't install. Would be good to be able to trial PAR on the other 1/4.
