plz help ... huge problem when upgrading to windows 7

and i didn't experience a similar slowdown with Vista. and i use the original hard drive + 1TB external hard drive from WD
and of course the M2 adapter that comes with the laptop i leave it always inside the laptop .

and i installed windows 7 on other laptops using the same CD and their working perfectly fine.

Hi Kak2a2, welcome to the forums , have you tried removing the M2 adaptor ,there may be a file or files on there that Win7 does'nt like

In addition, have you ever wiped the HD before reinstall to remove any corruption?

I am assuming since you are clean reinstalling that you have abandoned the useless Sony utilities, so their partition should go as well since it may be interfering.

Have you made the Recovery disk set off of the Recovery partition so you have a path back to factory condition if you ever want to sell the laptop and keep your Win7 upgrade? I would do this and then wipe the Recov partition as well.

Wipe the HD and format using this: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

If you have any questions, please post back a screenshot of your full Disk Management drive map using SNipping Tool in Start Menu.

Also test your memory using built-in WMD test and HD using maker's full CD scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

the main reason to do a clean install of win7 is so you do not get any corruption transferring over from vista ,backup all the data you require ,do a fresh install win 7 will find 90% of the drivers for you ,the rest , if you can't find them we will

It's very likely that doing a clean install (formatting the drive during the install) will resolve the problem you are having. If not, use your image backup (you do have one, right?) to put everything back as it was. You have a 1TB external drive so there should be plenty of room for an image backup. Macrium Reflect (free) is good for doing this.

Is the M2 adapter you mentioned a USB flash drive? If so, as pebbly said, remove it during the install, plug it in when done.

Nothing to lose but some time doing it this way.

If you boot from you Win 7 CD, it will ask you if you want to do a Custom Install (Clean Install). Say yes to that and it will format your HD and install Win 7. Be sure and backup your files before you do this because they will be gone in the format. It should take about 45 minutes to install Win 7. == Your question about shutting down when it asks you to wait until Windows closes or shut down now; that is not a problem. It happens on mine also. That is just some programs in the background taking a few seconds longer to close.
