    Hanging at Extracting Files

    Hello,

I got me a new 1TB HD and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit (not USB install, actual new DVD. I was trying to install it. The initial parts were painfully slow but they worked.

I got to the part where it Copies Files. Then it goes to Extracting Files and it stayed at 0% for about an hour (before I gave up). I could still move the mouse and I clicked on cancel (and then it did very little again).

I'm not sure what the problem is.

    My system is:
3Gz Dual Core Intel CPU (E8400)
2 x 2GB stick of DDR2 RAM (both Kingston, one is older, one is brand new)
    ASUS EAH4870 Video Card
    - Having trouble remembering what my motherboard is and I can't find it under my current Device Manager (Win XP). I know that I couldn't get Win XP onto my system before. The MB is an ASUS but would the actual MB details help?
1TB WD 7200 HD (brand new)

My particular concern is that my DVD drive is IDE (whereas HD is SATA). Would that have anything to do with it? I would imagine it would slow down the installation but not halt it.

    Anyway, please help. =)

Make sure you have latest BIOS version updated from old OS.

Set BIOS to defaults to clear the CMOS.

Set SATA controller in BIOS to AHCI first, then IDE.

Try partitioning your HD using Custom install Drive Options to Create New partitions to split the drive at least in half, then format each before installing to first partition.

If this doesn't help then remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install, next swap ram, then test RAM using memtest86 for 5-6 passes.
