no sound on tv after watching video from puter

Ok, I'm far from a computer geek or know let alone understand the lingo, so please feel free to throw yellow crayons if needed.

But my issue is this. I have hooked up my HP laptop with an HDMI video/sound cord to my HDTV HDMI, all was fine and dandy, was able to get sound on my tv watching the movie, computer and or the externial speakers.

BUT.... now when i shut the video playing off, switch my tv back to HDMI1 for regular tv watching, I have no sound from the tv speakers, nore from the external speakers except briefly during the switching process.

I have tried everything, been all over the net trying to figure this out and I find more issues of ones with getting their sounds back on the computer but no issues about loosing total sound from the tv after doing this.

I have even unplugged the cable from the tv, tried to restart everything to see if that would reset itself.

Can anyone help me out here please as I have tv to watch but nothing to hear now.

Thank you very much in advance for any and all help..

    Garrison

    Hello,
You state you switched your TV back to HDMI1 for regular TV watching.
Shouldn't you be watching regular TV on a non-HDMI choice?
Check to see if the source used to watch TV hasn't been hidden or disable.

The watching of the video was on channel HDMI1 but to watch the tv it is to be placed on HDMI2

But ended up calling VIZIO and found out that the HDMI cord from the DirectTV box to the tv must have an issue. Because they asked me to replace the HDMI cord from the box to the tv with a new cord.

That fixed the problem and automatically had sound from the tv. But don't understand why though that this happend. Sound was perfectly fine before using a HDMI cord from the computer to the tv.

    Worried about trying it again.
