On my 64bit test system i can play those trailers in Media Center without installing any additional codecs.

Use of such tools as MCDU or Win7DSFilterTweaker have most likely broken your system but at least you avoided those evil codecpacks.

All I can suggest is that next time you get around to formatting your system because you have broken it by attempting to fix playback issues on your own, you avoid the tools/software that are obviously breaking it.

BTW, my codecs are tried, tested and true. They are well known NOT to break your system and will provide FULL support for all your media without any additional software installations or tools what-so-ever.

it is possible that using the [Reset All] button of my Settings Application(s) will correct the issues you are experiencing.

Always remember, proper uninstall of my software can only be performed using the provided uninstall button on the Help TAB of the Settings Application(s)

so best suggestion is to reinstall windows? there isn't any way to find out why i can't play these in wmc? how will i know what "tools are obviously breaking it" if i don't know why it is broken?

or will installing your codec pack "reset" things?

The [Reset All] button in the 64bit Settings Application MAY fix this for you,
because it does reset Windows itself to the Windows Native default settings.

For the 64bit Settings Application to function, you must 1st install the 32bit Win7codecs.

    i'll try that then.

i would still like to know what was the actual problem in the first place so i can avoid that in the future.

If using [Reset All] fixes it, the cause of the problem was Win7DSFilterTweaker

If it is not fixed, and you have used MCDU, use that tool again to try and set things back to Microsoft

I'm sorry for assuming you had. Often they are the root of Media Center problems. Now that I know you havent used these softwares, my next best guess is that some other software (probably a player) modified native registry information for the mov filetype. Attached to this post is the native registry entries for mov containers. Download it, and to install it, doubleclick the file. Test mov files in Media Center.

i installed your shark packs, both 32 and 64 in order as you said. hit "reset all" on both and then the .mov files played in WMC. so then i uninstalled the shark packs using the uninstall button on the help tab, in order, and after complete, i couldn't play .mov files anymore. i also couldn't watch live tv. (live tv worked before uninstalling)

i just tried your .reg file and it installed ok, but i still get the "cannot play video" in wmc.

can you think of anything else for me to try? i'd rather not go to the extreme of reinstalling win7, but if i have to i guess i have to...
